The Team Ontario Program is seeking applications from coaches and general managers interested in becoming a part of the Ontario Lacrosse Association’s provincial team program and its coaching development program.

The Team Ontario program is currently accepting applications for head coach and assistant coach positions, as well as applications for general manager positions for the following programs:

Box Lacrosse Field Lacrosse

  • Peewee, Bantam, and Midget
  • Bantam Girls and Midget Girls
  • Junior Women’s Box Lacrosse
  • Senior Women’s Box Lacrosse

Field Lacrosse

  • U19 Women’s Field Lacrosse
  • U17 Women’s Field Lacrosse
  • U18 Men’s Field Lacrosse
  • U15 Boy’s Field Lacrosse

Applications for assistant coaches and athletic therapist/trainer applications will be released in early 2017. This application is available on the Team Ontario website www.teamontariolacrosse.com.

A team in each division will be selected from all eligible Ontario Lacrosse Association players.Teams will be chosen from a series of open selection camps held in the spring of 2017.

Peewee, Bantam and Midget Minor Box Lacrosse Nationals will be held the first two week of August  2017. The Female Box Lacrosse Nationals will be held July 2017. Men’s and Boy’s Field Lacrosse Nationals will be held the long weekend in September. The CLA has not yet released specific dates or locations, however, updates will be provided on the OLA Website and the Team Ontario Website once information is released.

7, 2017.

All coaches in the Team Ontario program must be fully certified in Introduction to Competition (level 2) under the National Coaching Certification Program, in the sector for which they are applying and prior to their respective tournament. Prospective coaches and general managers may be required to attend an in-person interview.

Coaching Staff Selection Criteria

The following four categories detail the criteria employed in the selection process for the coaching staff of the OLA Provincial Teams:

Overall Coaching Experience

  • Years of related experience in lacrosse
  • Experience as a lacrosse head or assistant coach (i.e. league play, provincials, qualifiers, tournament play, exhibition play)
  • Previous international / national experience and results
  • Personal coaching philosophy
  • Knowledge of national box lacrosse tournaments / competition

Overall Coaching Criteria

  • All Coaches must meet requirements noted in cover letter
  • Team staff will include two to three coaches, a General Manager, and an Athletic Therapist/Trainer & Equipment Manager
  • Attendance and participation at special coaching seminars/meetings (dates TBD).
  • Ability to attend Identification Camps, Invitational and Main Selection Camp in spring 2017
  • Ability to attend entire National Tournament for division applied for
  • Ability to provide constructive feedback for players’ future development
  • Knowledge and understanding of potential game adjustments and facilitating them during the course of the competition
  • Ability to work with OLA approved evaluators and jointly recognize and select quality lacrosse players who will be successful in the 2017 CLA National Tournament

Human Relations

  • Proven ability to work in a team-coaching situation
  • Proven ability to successfully relate to, control and work with players at this age level
  • Proven ability to successfully cope with deterrents and hardships in a competition
  • Knowledge in conflict management
  • Meet screening requirements including a Criminal Record Check – Vulnerable Sector Knowledge of Program
  • Commitment to the OLA Values and Code of Conduct
  • Good working knowledge of age group applying for
  • Proven ability to successfully serve as a spokesperson for the OLA team
  • Proven interest in working with the best possible lacrosse players to form a team regardless of their point of origin

Knowledge of Program

  • Commitment to the OLA Values and Code of Conduct
  • Good working knowledge of age group applying for

Management Staff Selection Criteria

The following three categories detail the criteria employed in the selection process for the General Manager of the OLA Provincial Teams:
Overall Management Experience

  • Years of related management experience in lacrosse or elite level sports team
  • Experience as a lacrosse/elite sports manager - previous international / national / provincial / club experience and results
  • Knowledge of provincial team lacrosse

Overall Management Criteria

  • Team staff will include two to three coaches, a General Manager, and an Athletic Therapist/Trainer & Equipment Manager
  • Attendance and participation at special General Manager/Support Staff seminars/meetings (dates TBD). Some of these meetings will be webinars.
  • Ability to attend Identification Camps, Invitational and Main Selection Camp in spring 2017
  • Knowledge and understanding of team organization
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team staff, athletes and their families, and tournament organizers

Human Relations

  • Proven ability to work in team environment
  • Proven ability to successfully manage an elite sports team
  • Proven ability to successfully cope with deterrents and hardships in a competition
  • Knowledge in conflict management
  • Meet screening requirements including a Criminal Record Check.

Knowledge of Program

  • Commitment to the OLA Values and Code of Conduct
  • Proven ability to successfully serve as a spokesperson for the OLA team
  • Have access to a computer with internet
  • A good working knowledge of the internet and Microsoft Office related software
  • Have valid driver’s license
