OLA Coaching Pathway

Maintaining Coaching Certification

 

STEP 1: Community Development

  1. Become trained at the Community Development Level by attending a discipline-specific (either box or field, or a combined box+field) certification clinic
  2. Complete the "Making Headway" Concussion Awareness module

This coaching certification is required for:

Box Lacrosse

  • All Paperweight, U9 and U11 Coaches
  • First Year U13 and Above Coaches

Field Lacrosse

  • All U9, U11 and U13 Coaches
  • First Year U15 and Above Coaches

Women's Field Lacrosse

  • All U11 and U13 Coaches
  • First Year U15 and Above Coaches

 

STEP 2: Competitive Introduction (Trained)

  1. Become trained at the Competitive Introduction Level by attending a discipline-specific (either box or field, or a combined box+field) certification clinic
  2. Complete the "Making Headway" Concussion Awareness module
  3. Complete and submit the discipline-specific Coaching Workbook

Note: Successful completion of STEP 1: Community Development is a pre-requisite for attendance at a Competitive Introduction certification clinic.

This coaching certification is required for:

Box Lacrosse

  • All U15 and Above Coaches

Field Lacrosse

  • Second Year U15 and Above Coaches

Women's Field Lacrosse

  • Second Year U15 and Above Coaches

 

STEP 3: Competitive Introduction (Certified)

  1. Complete the Ethical Decision Making Module
  2. Receive a successful practice evaluation (in-person or submitted video) by a certified coaching supervisor through the Ontario Lacrosse Association (or equivalent provincial member association)

Note: Competitive Introduction Certified Coaches are required to accumulate 20 Coaching Professional Development Points in each 5 year cycle in order to maintain their Certified status.

Box Lacrosse

  • All OLA coaches participating in a Lacrosse Canada National Championship

Field Lacrosse

  • All OLA coaches participating in a Lacrosse Canada National Championship

Women's Field Lacrosse

  • All OLA coaches participating in a Lacrosse Canada National Championship
